How this works
Where the pairings come from
The index holds 3,053 dupe products referencing 2,027 originals. Each pairing has one of two bases, and the table always says which:
- Seller claim. The clone house’s own product text names the original (“inspired by”, “impression of”, “our version of”). We quote it; we do not add pairings a seller did not make. Sources: Dua Fragrances, Oil Perfumery, Alexandria Fragrances, Dossier, ALT. Fragrances, Oakcha.
- Community consensus. Middle-Eastern and high-street houses (Armaf, Lattafa, Maison Alhambra, Al Haramain, Rasasi, Afnan, Orientica, Zara) do not name originals. Those pairings are a curated list built from reviewer consensus on Reddit, Fragrantica boards and YouTube, graded close or moderate. Price bands for them are typical online prices, not a live feed.
Matching originals
Seller text is normalised (MFK → Maison Francis Kurkdjian, YSL → Yves Saint Laurent) and matched against a reference list of about 25,000 fragrances to attach family, launch year and notes. Concentration words are ignored when a seller does not distinguish them, so “Sauvage” and “Sauvage EDP” land on one page; named flankers (Aventus Cologne, Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait) stay separate. Roughly 61% of originals matched a reference record; the rest show the seller’s wording only.
How this site is made
What is collected. The clone houses’ public product catalogs (Dua Fragrances, Oil Perfumery, Alexandria Fragrances, ALT. Fragrances, Oakcha) and Dossier’s product pages, found through its public sitemap. From each product we keep the name, the house’s own “inspired by” claim, sizes, prices, concentration and, where the seller lists them, notes. We do not copy sellers’ product descriptions. Family, launch year and notes of the originals come from a public reference dataset of perfumes.
What AI does. Matching sellers’ wording to originals is done by rules in code, not by AI. The “Quick take” on 150 fragrance pages is written by an AI model (Claude) from that page’s data only: the listed notes, the dupes with their prices and basis, and the community notes. Each one is labelled “AI-assisted summary”. The community-consensus list of Middle-Eastern and high-street clones was compiled with AI-assisted research into widely repeated reviewer consensus and is graded close or moderate.
What is checked. A script checks every Quick take against the table on the same page: each dollar figure must appear in the table, a “cheapest per ml” claim must quote the lowest price per ml, and a text written before the table gained or lost a dupe is flagged. Texts that fail are rejected or corrected. The model that writes a Quick take cannot add pairings: every pairing on the site is a seller’s own claim or an entry in the community list. Prices are a snapshot from 4 September 2026.
What is not checked. We do not smell-test. No bottle has been worn or compared side by side by us, so nothing here is a test result; how close a dupe smells is either the seller’s claim or reviewer consensus.
Which pages are in search engines. 402 fragrances have a page, but only the 147 that carry something the sellers’ listings don’t (a community-consensus pick, or a Quick take comparing at least two houses), or that people already reach from search, are offered to search engines. The rest stay browsable from the A–Z index.
How dupes are ordered
Community-consensus clones first (they are the ones people actually recommend), then by price per ml, then by seller name. Money never affects the order. A fragrance gets its own page when two or more dupes of it are on file.
Prices and sizes
Read from each seller’s public catalog on 4 September 2026. Price per ml uses the cheapest listed size. Sellers change prices without notice; treat the numbers as a snapshot.
How the site earns money
Some outbound links go through affiliate programs, which pay a commission when you buy. Every outbound link on this site passes through our own redirect (/go/) so we can swap programs without touching the pages, and each is marked rel=“sponsored”. Which dupes are listed, and in what order, does not depend on whether a seller pays us. As an Amazon Associate, Dupe Cabinet earns from qualifying purchases made through Amazon links; community-clone buttons open an Amazon search for the product because those houses have no direct shop.
What we are not
We do not sell perfume, we are not affiliated with any perfume house, and we have not smelled the bottles listed. Brand names are used to identify the fragrance being copied and belong to their owners.
